Born and brought up amidst the beautiful surroundings of Shillong ( popularly known as the Switzerland of the East), Sangeeta Goswami, a product of St. Marys Convent and College is an ardent lover of animals and the environment. She completed her Master Degree in English Literature from Guwahati University, Guwahati, Assam.

Always a popular and bright student of St. Marys School and College, Sangeeta had a very soft corner for animals.

Brought up in a family of animal lovers it is always easy to work for them as encouragement flows on from all angles.

Father, Professor Nalinikumar Misra, a lecturer in St. Edmunds College, Shillong and the Honourary Secretary of Indian Red Cross Society, of Assam branch, always worked for people in distress etc, but Misra was and remained an animal lover till his last.

Mother, Charulata Devi, an ardent lover of animals is still found to work for them at the age of eighty.

 

Married to Nagen Goswami, fortunately an animal lover who always encouraged his wife to carry on her work and being a businessman by profession, he always helped her financially too. A very popular political leader, Mr. Goswami was nominated Mayor of Guwahati city for five long years and during this period he always helped his wife pick up sick and disabled animals from the streets of the city and arround.

Sangeeta, is at present serving at a local college and she devotes her entire salary for the benefit of destitute animals.

She has a hospital/ shelter for animals here at Guwahati, where people make fun of you if you show compassion to these voiceless creatures. This shelter houses a huge number of stray dogs, cats, cows, birds etc. where two animal keepers look after them twenty four hours. A veterinarian, a field assistant, an animal ambulance driver and a sweeper for the care of animals which is the only of its kind in the entire North Eastern region.
