Shelter house cum Hospital:
At the initiative and consistent efforts of Smt. Maneka Gandhi, the PFA was allotted a plot of five bighas land by the Govt. of Assam situated at Hengrabari, Express Highway, adjacent to the Doordarshan residential colony. By the courtesy of Late Hiteswar Saikia, the then Chief Minister, Assam, the plot was handed over to Smt. Sangeeta Goswami on behalf of PFA in the year 1995. On this plot, shelter house for destitute animals cum hospital with a built up area of nearly 3500 sq. ft. was built in the year 2001 with the funding of Rs. 22.50 lakhs received from the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India under the grant in aid scheme.

M/s K. K. Builders & Engineers Pvt. Ltd., a renowned civil construction firm of the state were pleased enough to construct the hospital on cost to cost basis. The shelter house caters to the need of stray and ownerless animals.

 
Presently it houses around seventy or more dogs, some invalid and some sick. Food is timely provided to them as this shelter has two animal keepers who look after these animals. Other than dogs, shelter also houses many sick cows, goats, pigs etc. who need a lot of care. The hospital situated here provides both indoor and outdoor medical facilities for sick animals and is also fully equipped with an operation theatre, an isolation chamber and proper cages to keep the animals after necessary operation. This hospital has its own qualified veterinary doctor, a field assistance and a sweeper.

PFA, Assam maintains two ambulances

One 407 make Tata vehicle for transportation of big animals.

One Maruti van for transportation of smaller animals given by the Ministry of Environment & Forests, Govt. of India for the purpose of picking up sick animals when necessary.

 
 
 
Other activities

PFA, Assam has been organizing various activities for animal welfare since its inception.

Some of the notable activities are organizing free treatment camps in rural areas from time to time, free vaccinations camps for animals owned by poor people, ABC (animal birth control) of stray dogs, rescue and treatment of wild animals other than organizing camps for the purpose of creating greater awareness for animal rights. Protests made by the organization against scarifying of buffaloes as religious ritual by the King of Nepal on his visit of the Kamakhya Temple situated in city of Guwahati in the year 2002 was widely publicized in the media.
